Meet Anita Burroughs

Digging In; a New Hampshire Political Podcast

Anita Burroughs is a third-term state representative of New Hampshire and the Ranking Democrat on the Commerce Committee.

Anita entered the political arena in 2016 following the election of Donald Trump.  She decided to run for state rep and to challenge the sitting Speaker of the Houses (Gene Chandler), who had been in office for 37 years.  The final decision was made after fortification with a rather large margarita.  She won the election and was nicknamed The Dragon Slayer by her colleagues in the House.

The Digging In podcast explores the often messy political arena that is The Granite State. Her guests include movers and shakers within the walls of the state house and those working to influence legislation and policy.

In addition to bi-monthly podcasts, Burroughs has added a segment, "New Hampshire Political Putz of the Week," where a person or group of people are recognized for their efforts to move New Hampshire backward.

Anita has been a resident of Bartlett for over 30 years, although many of her detractors never let her forget that she was born in New Jersey and not in the Granite State.

She has been active in community non-profits, was one of the founding board members of the Conway Area Humane Society, and served as board chair for eleven years.  She also served as the chair of Starting Point, Services for the Victims of Domestic and Sexual Violence for six years.

She lives with her husband Jonathan, a physician who was the director of the emergency department at Memorial Hospital, and at the age of 73, completed law school and is studying for the bar.  They live with one incredibly annoying cat and one perfect dog.

Anita is the proud bonus mom of two adult children and two grandchildren.
